Mudcats Roll Past Fireflies

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Carolina Mudcats jumped out early and never looked back as they rolled past the Columbia Fireflies 9-4 on Thursday night at Segra Park in Columbia.

Carolina (41-24) jumped out early with a pair of runs in the opening inning thanks to a two-run home run by Yophery Rodriguez to make it 2-0.

The Mudcats added to their lead with a single tally in the fifth before they exploded with four runs in the sixth, highlighted by a trio of singles to stretch the lead to 6-0.

Columbia (35-30) tried to answer back in the latter inning but could not pull closer as the Mudcats held on to claim victory.

The series continues Friday night at Segra Park with first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m. Carolina returns home to Five County Stadium on Tuesday, June 25 when they face the Lynchburg Hillcats.
