NEWS & NOTES:

- About Last Night - The Mudcats fell short against Salem on Thursday night, 4-3. Francisco Jimenez took his third straight losing decision, allowing four runs over five innings. Jesus Aguilar finished the night with two hits.

- All's Well for Greenwell - Outfielder Bo Greenwell was solid in his 2012 debut for Carolina. The son of former Boston Red Sox Mike Greenwell, Bo was 1x3 with an RBI and a stolen base. Greenwell missed nearly all of 2011 due to a broken finger and a torn ACL.

- The Big G - Outfielder Anthony Gallas extended his hitting streak to five with a single Thursday. The Cleveland native is hitting .500 (8x16) in his last five games with 2 home runs and 5 RBI. Gallas boasts a .333 average for the month of June.

- Better for Petter - Reliever Kyle Petter added another frame to his scoreless inning streak Thursday. Petter has not allowed a run since May 16, a span of seven outings (12.1 innings). During this time, he has lowered his ERA from 9.75 to 4.73.

- Sturdy Sturdevant - Pitcher Tyler Sturdevant continued his comeback from an early season shoulder injury on Thursday. The right-hander dealt two scoreless frames. He's made four appearances, totaling six innings, allowing just two hits.

- The Hammer - Jeremie Tice was selected to participate in this year's Home Run Derby at the All-Star event in Winston-Salem, N.C. Tice enters today tied with Potomac's Justin Bloxom for the league lead in homers with 12.
