'Cats Take a Close One in Frederick

Lynchburg, VA- The Hillcats took another from Frederick, this time it was 4-2 final. Gus Schlosser got his eighth victory of the season and Adam Milligan added another multi-RBI game to his total.

The Hillcats jumped on the Keys early in this game. Five consecutive runners reached against Scott Copeland. Adam Miligan's double scored Tommy La Stella and Mycal Jones' single scored Milligan to make it 2-0.

The Keys made noise in the bottom of the first when their first two runners reached off Gus Schlosser. However, Schlosser induced a 1-6-3 double play to end the threat.

Matt Lipka started the fourth with an infield single. Nick Ahmed drilled a double to the right-center field gap, Lipka scored and Ahmed reached with a stand-up triple to make it 3-0. Two batters later, Milligan lifted a ball to left and Steven Bumbry made the catch. Ahmed tagged and scored despite a strong throw from Bumbry. The lead was 4-0 in favor of the Hillcats.

Frederick would add a run in the bottom of the fifth when Mike Flacco drilled a line drive over the left field wall for his fourth homer of the season. The score was 4-1 after five.

In the bottom of the sixth, Schlosser walked two consecutive batters and was pulled from the game. Blaine Sims entered and allowed a single to Bumbry. With the bases loaded, Sims walked Flacco and it cut the lead to 4-2.

The scoring would end there as Sims and Rick Zagone shut down the opposing offenses.

Schlosser (8-3) earned the win for his five and one-third innings of work. He allowed six hits, two runs and three walks. Schlosser also struck out two. Copeland (3-6) got the loss. He went four innings, surrendered eight hits that led to four runs. Copeland walked two and fanned four. Juan Jamie got his 13 th save of the season.

Game three with the Keys will be tomorrow at 6:00pm. Cody Martin (5-5, 3.67) will make his final start before the break. Tyler Wilson (2-2, 3.33), will take the mound for the Keys.
