Frederick Keys News Release
FREDERICK, MD - The Keys dropped another close decision, losing 4-2 to the Lynchburg Hillcats on Friday night in front of 6,841 fans at Harry Grove Stadium.
It's the fourth consecutive loss for the Keys who have now lost seven of their past eight games and fall to 27-41 on the year.
The Keys will look to end the losing streak tomorrow when they host Lynchburg for a special jersey auction to benefit the Lupus Foundation. The players will be sporting purple jerseys with butterflies gracing the front and back.
Lynchburg took a 2-0 lead after the first inning of play, eventually building up a 4-0 lead in the fourth inning and never looked back from there, notching their 37th win on the year to move to 37-31.
Gus Schlosser (8-3, 3.77 ERA) gets his league-leading eighth win of the year as he limited the Keys to two runs through 5 1/3 innings of work. Scott Copeland (3-6, 5.57 ERA) is charged with the loss after giving up all four runs through four innings of work.
Lynchburg took their lead in the first when they scored two runs with two outs to take a 2-0 advantage. After Tommy La Stella doubled, Adam Milligan sent him home when he doubled to give the Hillcats their first run. After a hit batter and walk loaded the bases, a Mycal Jones infield single brought home another run to make it 2-0.
The Hillcats added onto that lead in the fourth inning when Nick Ahmed, with a runner on first, tripled to bring home the runner. A sacrifice fly from Milligan then made it 4-0.
The Keys would try inching their way back into the game as in the fifth inning Mike Flacco hit his fourth homerun of the year to cut their deficit to three, trailing 4-1.
In the next inning, with the bases loaded, Flacco again brought home a runner by walking in a run. Although that brought the Keys to within two, they could not score afterwards, ultimately losing 4-2.
Rick Zagone pitched excellent in relief, tossing five scoreless innings and giving up just one hit.
RHP Tyler Wilson (2-2, 3.33 ERA) is on the mound for the Keys for the special jersey auction benefit. He'll face Lynchburg's RHP Cody Martin (5-5, 3.67 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM with live coverage starting at 5:40 PM on 1450 AM The Source and online at WTHU.org.
