Carolina Mudcats News Release

ZEBULON, NC - The Carolina Mudcats (18-22) concluded a five-game home stand on Wednesday night as they fell to the Jacksonville Suns (26-13) 4-3 at Five County Stadium.

Carolina struck first in the contest in the bottom of the second inning as Brandon Yarborough reached via a lead-off single and advanced to third base one batter later when Jacksonville starter, Jose Rosario over threw first base on a bunt attempt to put runners at the corners and two batters later Kris Negron lined a single to left to plate the run and give the Mudcats a 1-0 lead.

Jacksonville responded the next inning putting up a four spot on the scoreboard. Brandon Tripp led off the inning with a double and after a groundout, Carolina starter, Travis Webb walked back to back hitters. Webb then got the pitcher Rosario swinging but with a one ball two strike count on the Suns lead off hitter, Ryan Curry, he doubled to left to drive home a pair of runs. One batter later, Osvoldo Martinez doubled just inside the third base line to plate the final run of the night for Jacksonville.

Carolina tried to rally in the bottom of the fourth as they pushed across a pair as Jake Kahaulelio singled to left to begin the frame and he scored one hitter later when Sean Henry tripled to right to bring the Mudcats to within two. Carolina newcomer Mike Costanzo drove in the final Mudcat run of the night as he sent a sacrifice fly to right to bring Henry home, but the home standing Mudcats could get no closer as four Suns relievers combined to shut down the Mudcats.

The Mudcats will begin a five game road trip on Thursday when they travel to Chattannoga to take on the Lookouts. First pitch is slated for 7:15 as Carolina will send Alexander Smit to the hill while the Lookouts will coutner with Jesus Castillo.
