Braves Take Series Finale against Diamond Jaxx, 6-5

Pearl, MS - In the finale of the five-game series, the Mississippi Braves get a walk off base hit from Juan Gonzalez with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th inning to win 6-5. The two teams bother scored runs late to go back and forth and when the dust settled, the Braves were on top. The 6-5 final marked the fourth time in five games that the outcome between Mississippi and West Tenn was decided by one run. The D-Jaxx take the series 3-2 but Mississippi leaves the series on a two game win streak.

West Tenn jumped out to a three run lead on Braves' starter, Erik Cordier. Johan Limonta smashed a pitch over the right field wall with two men on base to make it a 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning. In the bottom of the inning, Mississippi came back with a homer of their own. Donell Linares took starter, Mauricio Robles deep for a two run homer. At the end of the 1st, West Tenn led 1-0.

In the 4th, West Tenn advanced further ahead with a run scored by Jose Yepez. Yepez originally reached on a single and a wild pitch advanced him to second. Joe Dunigan then doubled in the run to make the new score, 4-2.

The MBraves stuck around till the 7th and then made their move. Randy Gress dealt the first blow with a home run over the left field wall to make it a 4-3 ballgame. Alex Romero then reached on an error that would come back to haunt the D-Jaxx. Donell Linares and Willie Cabrera both singled and Cabrera's drove in Romero. The score at the end of the 7th was 4-4.

An inning later, Mississippi took their first lead of the game when Juan Gonzalez's single scored Orlando Mercado. The Braves' third out of the inning came at the plate when Gonzalez was thrown out and the score was 5-4, Braves, into the 9th.

Lee Hyde came out looking for a save but would give up the lead in the top of the 9th inning. Scott Savastano led off the inning with a single but was then forced out at second base on a fielders choice from Carlos Peguero. In attempting to turn two on the gorunder by Peguero, the throw to first left the field of play and a throwing error put Peguero at first with just one out. The next batter singled in Peguero to tie the game at 5.

Hyde then picked off Truinfell for the second out and struck out Alex Liddi to end the inning. Mississippi then came up in the bottom of the 9th needing one to win. With one out, Mauro Gomez walked and Cody Johnson singled. Orlando Mercado then walked and the bases were loaded with one out. Eric Duncan then struck out and the bat was then in the hands of Juan Gonzalez. Juan was down to his final strike when he singled to right field to score Gomez and end the game. Final score, Braves 6, D-Jaxx 5.

The 10 game home stand continues for Mississippi tomorrow night as the Hunstville Stars arrive for game one of a five game series. LHP Richard Sullivan (1-3; 6.25), will pitch for Mississippi while Hunstville wlill go with RHP Michael Bowman (2-4; 5.73). First pitch is set for 7:05.
