Carolina Mudcats News Release
ZEBULON, NC - A comeback wasn't in the cards Thursday night at Five County Stadium as the Carolina Mudcats (14-4) fell to the Salem Red Sox (7-11) by a final score of 3-1. The loss was just the second home loss for Carolina on the year.
The Red Sox did all of their damage on one swing in the top of the third inning on a three-run home run from Nataneal Yuten, his second home run of the season. It was the lone blemish on an otherwise solid outing from Mudcats starter Jesus Rivero (L, 2-1). The righty struck out six over four and a third innings.
Carolina got a run back in the bottom half of the third on an RBI double from Yophery Rodriguez. However, it was the only salvo they would come up with against Salem starter Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz (W, 1-2), who went five innings and struck out seven. Rodriguez-Cruz then handed the ball over to the bullpen and the duo of Trennor O'Donnell and Max Carlson (SV, 1) were equally dominant. O'Donnell pitched two scoreless before Carlson followed to retire the final six batters in order, earning his first professional save.
Both teams will return to action on Friday night at Five County Stadium with Friday Fireworks presented by CBS 17. RHP Josh Knoth will make his fourth start of the year for the Mudcats while the Red Sox send RHP Luis Cohen to the hill. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM.
