Mudcats Clinched a Series Win

Zebulon, NC- The Carolina Mudcats (24-24) clinched a series win against the Birmingham Biscuits (24-25) with an 8-3 win Friday night at Five County Stadium.

OF Chris Heisey led the offensive charge for the Mudcats, going 3-5 with a three-run homer. Heisey homered off the scoreboard in deep left in the first, then followed with singles in the fourth and fifth. Sean Henry set the table from leadoff spot, reaching base three times. Henry was hit by a pitch in the first, singled in the fourth and walked in the eighth. Biscuits starter Aneury Rodriguez (L, 2-7) continued his struggles, allowing 7 earned runs on six hits and three walks over 3.1 IP. Rodriguez becomes the first Southern League pitcher to lose seven games.

Carolina starter Jordan Smith was ejected from the game in the fifth for arguing balls and strikes after a two-run dinger from Desmond Jennings. Smith gave up three earned runs on five hits and two walks scattered over four innings of work. The Mudcats bullpen combined to throw five scoreless innings in relief of Smith. Camillo Vazquez (W, 2-1) struck out two Biscuits during two perfect innings. Logan Ondrusek and Ruben Medina closed out the final three innings for Carolina.

The series finale is set for a 6:15PM first pitch from Five County Stadium Saturday night. Curtis Partch of Carolina will be making his AA debut against LHP Jason Cromer (4-2, 4.23) for the Biscuits
