Carolina Mudcats News Release
ZEBULON, N.C. - The Carolina Mudcats got five scoreless innings from their pitching staff on Friday night at Five County Stadium as they took the series from the Delmarva Shorebirds with a 4-2 victory.
Carolina (30-17) took the lead for good in the fifth inning against Delmarva (15-33) right hander Blake Money (L, 0-3) when David Garcia collected his second RBI of the game, on a sacrifice fly to give the Mudcats a 3-2 lead.
That lead grew in the seventh inning as Daniel Guilarte and Yophery Rodriguez collected back-to-back doubles to stretch the lead to two runs at 4-2.
Josh Knoth (W, 1-3) earned his first professional victory on Friday night for Carolina working a career-best 5+ innings and striking out five. The Carolina bullpen was also lights out as Jesus Rivero (S, 1) permitted just one hit and struck out five straight batters to end the game and notch his first save of the campaign.
The series will continue Saturday at Five County Stadium when the Mudcats send RHP Yorman Galindez (0-0, 3.16) to the mound and the Shorebirds give the ball to RHP Michael Forret (2-4, 2.0). First pitch is slated for 5:00 p.m.
