Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
The Lynchburg Hillcats rebounded after their extra innings loss to knock off the Salem Red Sox 11-1 on Friday night.
Wuilfredo Antunez would set the seasons single-game high with five RBI's as he finished a double shy of the cycle. Rorik Maltrud would also piece together a solid start with a five inning, three hit performance.
Antunez would smack the first of his three hits in the first inning as he picked up a two-run home run for his second of the year, putting Lynchburg in front early on.
The Hillcats would strike again in the second inning as Robert Lopez would double home a run. Fran Alduey would pick up a double of his own for his first Lynchburg RBI. Gonzalez would add to the party with a double of his own before Antunez would deliver a single to put the Hillcats up 6-0.
Antunez would not be finished as he would return in the fourth inning and deliver his fifth triple of the season, driving home Gonzalez and Christian Knapczyk. Antunez would have several opportunities to get the double but could not pick up another base knock.
With Lynchburg leading it 8-0, Gonzalez would find his power stroke as he picked up his fifth home run of the season on a blast to right field. Two runs would come home to score on the homer. In the seventh, Lexer Saduy would get in on the action with a fielder's choice that would score Jose Pastrano.
After a great pitching performance, Salem would score with two outs in the ninth as Diego Viloria would drive home a run with a single to right field. After the base hit, Viloria would continue a heated conversation with Juan Benjamin which led to the benches clearing. No ejections would be recorded as cooler heads would prevail.
Lynchburg and Salem will renew their rivalry on Saturday evening as the Hillcats rebrand to the Skunks for one night only. Tickets are available at Lynchburg-hillcats.com.
