Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
EAGLES ICED â On Wednesday night, the Mudbugs kicked off their longest road trip of the season with a 4-2 win over the Colorado Eagles at the Budweiser Events Center thanks to 45 saves from goaltender Jeff Blair. After Mike Lephart gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the first period, the Mudbugs scored twice within 32 seconds to claim a 2-1 lead with goals from Lyle Steenbergen and Dan Wildfong. In the third period, after Colorado tied the game, Chris Brassard and Craig Soke scored to give the Mudbugs the lead for good and Blair made 24 saves in the final twenty minutes to earn his third win in as many games against the Eagles over the last two years. The game also marked the return of all-star defenseman Craig Minard to the Mudbugs after beginning the season in England. Minard is back for his fourth season in Bossier-Shreveport.
COLORADO PUTS UP SIX â In their second meeting of the week, the Mudbugs and Colorado Eagles combined for ten total goals with the Eagles claiming a 6-4 win in front of a sellout crowd of 5,289 fans. Colorado struck early in the first with a goal from Mike Lephart just 33 seconds into the game and Greg Pankewicz scored at 10:35 to give the Eagles an early 2-0 lead. However, David Oliver would answer with his first goal of the season and Dan Wildfong scored on the power play to tie the game at 2-2 after one period. But after Ryan Manitowich and Brad Williamson traded second period goals, Colorado took advantage of several Mudbugs penalty calls in the third period as Riley Nelson, Ryan Tobler, and Lee Ruff scored three goals in a five-minute span to give Colorado the 6-4 win.
SCORPIONS TAKE DOWN THE BUGS â With five goals from five different goal scorers and two tallies on the power play, the New Mexico Scorpions defeated the Mudbugs on Saturday night 5-1 at Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The loss was the second in a row on the Mudbugs' three-game road trip and dropped their overall record to 9-6-3 this season. Veteran Shawn Legault scored his tenth goal of the season to open the scoring in the first period but Dan Wildfong tied the game later with a shorthanded goal at 18:16, his 13th goal of the season and the Mudbugs' second shorthanded marker. But Randy Murphy would score on a two-man advantage with just 56 seconds left in the first and the Scorpions took control of the game in the second with goals from Mike Oliveira and Peter Ambroziak.
