Scorpions Honored by U.S. Air Force
December 6, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release
ALBUQUERQUE â While Saturday's game at Tingley Coliseum was Military Appreciation Night, the praise went both ways. The New Mexico Scorpions received the American Spirit Award for continued promotion of the United States Air Force. Col. Timothy D. Arrington from Hill Air Force Base in Utah was on hand to give the award to Scorpions President/CEO W.D. "Doug" Frank at Saturday's game.
The Scorpions and Air Force are in their second season as corporate partners. Borrowings on the Air Force's slogan, "Cross Into the Blue", the Scorpions under Director of Corporate Sales Sean Mackay have developed a unique marketing venture called "Cross Into the Blue Line". Under the program, all new recruits and recent graduates of Basic Training can receive free tickets to any Scorpions home game during the 2004-05 season.
The Scorpions were a unanimous selection for the award, beating out the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball among other organizations.
"We are delighted to be given this honor," said Frank. "We are always trying to develop new and unique ideas, and I couldn't be happier with our staff and Sean Mackay in particular for coming up with such a great idea. To receive this award from such an institution as the U.S. Air Force that defends our liberty and freedom on a daily basis makes this that much more special."
The Scorpions take to the road tomorrow, Tuesday, Dec. 7 as they face the Amarillo Gorillas. Faceoff is 6:11 p.m. MST, and the game will be broadcast on SportsRadio 610 The Sports Animal and on the Internet at www.scorpionshockey.com and www.broadcastmonsters.com beginning at 5:55 p.m. with the Voice of the Scorpions Mike Sheehan. The Scorpions are back at Tingley Coliseum this Friday, Dec. 10 and Saturday, Dec. 11 as they host the Colorado Eagles. Both games start at 7:05 p.m.
Tickets for all Scorpions regular season home games are available at the Scorpions Team Store, located at 6300 San Mateo NE at the corner of San Mateo and Academy in the Far North Shopping Center, and any TicketMaster outlet. Single-game tickets for the 2004-2005 CHL season start at $11!
Ten-game packages and Scorpions voucher books are available starting at $110. Full season ticket packages are also on sale and include a free entry into the Scorps Rewards prize pool.
