Austin Ice Bats News Release
The Austin Ice Bats of the Central Hockey League today announced that the city of Cedar Park has reached a memorandum of understanding with the CHL's parent company, Global Entertainment and its subsidiary, International Coliseums Corporation, for the construction and operation of a new multi-purpose events center in the city. Under the agreement, the project will be placed before voters in a special election on February 5th.
If voters approve the project, construction on the new state-of-the-art facility would begin immediately, and the Ice Bats would relocate to the facility as its anchor tenant, beginning with the 2006-07 season.
"We are extremely pleased to be involved with a project of this magnitude," said Ice Bats President Jeff Buch, "and we're happy that the voters will get the chance to make the ultimate decision. We believe once voters are presented with the accurate information, they'll view this as an extraordinary opportunity to accomplish something great for the city."
"The construction of a multi-purpose arena is probably the single biggest project we'll ever undertake as a city," said Cedar Park City Manager Craig Lonon. "It's a great project for the city, and we're honored to have the Ice Bats' involvement as a partner in the project."
"The combined efforts of many parties have made this project a reality," said Rick Kozuback, President and CEO of Global Entertainment Corporation. "We commend Mayor Bob Antle and the City of Cedar Park, Norman Green and Jeff Buch of the Austin Ice Bats and Stafford Sports consultants on their diligence, spirit of cooperation and desire to bring an outstanding new multi-purpose event center to the City of Cedar Park."
The Ice Bats return to their current home, the Travis County Expo Center, for a four-game homestand, starting with games this Friday and Saturday. Friday night, the Ice Bats host Southeast division leading Corpus Christi, and Southwest division leader San Angelo visits on Saturday. The "Bud True Music Concert Series" continues after Saturday's game, with a performance from "The Burden Brothers."
