New Mexico Scorpions News Release
SCORPIONS RECAP â
LUBBOCK 2, SCORPIONS 1 â Justin Keller broke a 1-1 tie early in the second period to lift Lubbock to a 2-1 win over the Scorpions on Friday. Peter Ambroziak tied the game late in the first period with a power play goal, but that was the only offense the Scorpions could muster. Anders Strome had the other Cotton Kings goal, while Lance Leslie made 26 saves. Miguel Beaudry stopped 40 shots in a game for the fourth time this season.
SCORPIONS 5, BOSSIER-SHREVEPORT 1 â New Mexico scored two power play goals and added a shorthanded tally as they claimed a 5-1 victory over the Mudbugs on Saturday. Randy Murphy tied a team season-high with four points (1g-3a) while Daniel Tetrault added two assists. Shawn Legault, Mike Oliveira, Peter Ambroziak and Jordan Bianchin also scored for the Scorpions. Miguel Beaudry stopped 37 of 38 shots, including tying a season best by turning away all 20 Mudbugs shots in the third period.
SCORPIONS MATCH-UPS â
AMARILLO â The Gorillas did the Scorpions a favor over the weekend by sweeping a home-and-home series from Wichita, but New Mexico will look to repay Amarillo by dealing them a loss tomorrow. The Scorpions took a 4-3 win at Tingley Coliseum on Nov. 24. Derek Hahn leads the Gorillas with 21 points (9g-12a), followed by Brent Hughes (5g-9a-14pts). Goalie Shawn Degagne (5-3-1, 2.85 GAA) has started six straight games for the Gorillas. Former Corpus Christi forward Patrick Levesque (2g-5a-7pts) has a point in all five games since joining the Gorillas.
COLORADO â After the Scorpions swept a pair of games in Colorado last month, the Eagles will be looking for revenge this weekend at Tingley Coliseum. 2004 CHL All-Star Greg Pankewicz is fourth in the CHL with 28 points (12g-16a). The Eagles are second in the league with 3.56 goals per game and are third allowing just 2.5 goals per contest. Goalie Tyler Weiman (7-1-3 record) leads the league with a 1.86 GAA and three shutouts this season. Colorado leads the league on the penalty kill at 90.3 percent and is second behind the Scorpions on the power play at 19.8 percent. The Eagles have played just four road games so far, the fewest in the league.

NORTHERN CONFERENCE TIGHT â The season is not even one-third over yet, but the race in the Northern Conference is shaping up to be extremely tight this year as the top five teams are separated by just five points. Fort Worth currently leads the way with 26 points (12-4-2), followed by the Scorpions and Wichita just one point behind with identical 12-5-1 marks. Colorado is next with 22 points (9-3-4), with Bossier-Shreveport just one behind. Colorado has played two fewer games than the other four teams.
STINGERS â The Scorpions are the only team in pro hockey not to allow a power play goal at home this season, staying perfect in 45 chances after an 8-for-8 performance against Bossier-Shreveport on Saturday... New Mexico is still first overall in the CHL on the power play (27.9 percent) and first at home (35.9 percent) as well... Daniel Tetrault is tied for third among CHL defensemen with 15 points (2g-13a) and is tied for second with a current four-game assists streak... Miguel Beaudry is second in the league with ten wins and 461 saves, fourth with a .926 save percentage and 877 minutes played and eighth with a 2.53 GAA... The Scorpions are 4-2-0 against Northwest Division rivals, but this weekend's games against Colorado will be the first at home this season.
