Mudbugs beat Riverkings 3-1

Daniel Pegoraro scored shorthanded with 3:20 remaining in the game to give the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs a 3-1 win over the Mississippi RiverKings tonight at the DeSoto Civic Center.

With the RiverKings on a power play, Pegoraro stole the puck from Steve Makway at the red line and skated in alone on Sebastien Centomo. Pegoraro backhanded the puck through Centomo's 5-hole to give the Mudbugs their first win of the season and their first victory over the RiverKings in four tries.

The RiverKings had tied the game with 12:29 remaining on Chad Woollard's power play goal. Woollard shot the puck from the right circle over John DeCaro's left shoulder to make it a 1-1 game.

The Mudbugs got on the board with 4:46 left in the second period when Justin Aikins buried a rebound past Centomo following a good initial save.

Joe Ori added an empty net goal in the final minute.

The RiverKings dropped to 4-2 on the season. The Mudbugs improved to 1-5-1.

Centomo made 28 saves for the 'Kings. DeCaro made 34 stops for the 'Bugs.

The RiverKings went one for 10 on the power play, but gave up their third shorthanded goal of the season. In both of their losses, they gave up the winning goals while on the power play late in the third period. The Mudbugs did not score in any of their seven extra-man chances.

The RiverKings will visit the Tulsa Oilers on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m.
