New Mexico Scorpions News Release

[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-The Scorpions handed Rocky Mountain their first loss of the season with a 10-0 domination. Andrew Martin played strong in net with a 31-save performance and Dominic Osman and Konrad Reeder each collected four points in the lopsided victory.

The Scorpions did something no team has done this season, score on Rocky Mountain in the first period. In fact, the Scorpions scored a season high five first period goals.

Osman picked up his first career hat trick with a three goal first period. The Scorps scored their first three goals in just over two minutes. Osman scored at the 6:05 mark of the opening period, Chris Robertson followed it up 42-seconds later and Osman finished the trifecta at the 8:08 mark.

Late in the period, New Mexico went back on the offensive as Kevin Harvey scored on a perfect pass from defenseman Michael Kolarz. With time winding down in the first, Reeder started a two-on-one break with Osman. Reeder delivered a beautiful pass to Osman who threw it to the back of the net just before the time expired.

In the second period the Scorpions added to their lead when Ray Ortiz scored his second goal of the year at the 5:22 mark. Reeder scored his third shorthanded goal in two nights and chased goalie Terry Dunbar to the bench.

Replacing Dunbar in net was former Scorpion Scott Reid. New Mexico greeted their former goalie with three third period goals. Mitch Stephens collected his second goal in as many games at the 1:23 mark. Blair Stayzer gave the Scorps their ninth goal with the third power play goal of the night. Shawn Skiehar finished the scoring with his first goal as a member of the Scorpions.

Martin's shutout was the first for a Scorpions net minder since Miguel Beaudry's on February 13, 2005 against Austin. The 10-goal output was New Mexico's most since November 22, 2002 in a 10-1 against El Paso.

The Scorpions continue their home stand with a pair of games next weekend. It will be "Rivalry Weekend" as the Scorpions host Amarillo on Friday and Arizona on Saturday. The puck drops at 7:15 p.m.
