Bucks Beat Bees In Hive: Improve To 8-0

HIDALGO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 4-2 in front of 4,875 fans at the Dodge Arena Saturday night. With the win Laredo extends their season-opening winning streak to eight games.

The Bees got on the scoreboard first at 7:59 when David Masse put a back-hander past Bucks goaltender Dustin Traylen, giving Rio a 1-0 lead. Steve Simoes tied the game at one for Laredo at the 17:45 mark of the period, as he sent a slap-shot in from the right circle on a two-on-one break. It was Simoes second goal of the season. Paul Elliott and Traylen picked up assists. The first period saw three separate fights, and a total of 52 minutes in penalties between the two teams.

Laredo took a 2-1 lead nearly five minutes into the second period when Rane Carnegie scored off of a rebound. Brent MacSween and Chris Korchinski picked up assists. It was Carnegie's fourth goal of the season. The Bees tied the game up at two at the the 15:02 mark of the second period when Jon Hedberg sent a rebound shot in past Traylen. Hedberg was signed by the Bees on Thursday. The Bucks re-took the lead just 13 seconds later when reigning CHL player of the week Jeff Bes scored his sixth goal of the year as he sent the puck in from the left circle. Simoes picked up an assist on the goal.

Laredo made it 4-2 at the 10:39 mark of the third period when Brent MacSween scored on a wheeling shot from the left circle. It was his 8th goal of the season.

Traylen improves to 5-0 in the Laredo net, he is the second Bucks goalie to win his first five starts joining Marco Emond, who started 5-0 in 2003-04.

The Bucks have a short turnaround as they will battle the Austin Ice Bats at the Chaparral Ice Arena on Sunday afternoon. Face off is set for 4:08pm.
