Mud Hens Defeat Clippers in Front of Sell Out

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo Mud Hens surged past the Columbus Clippers 5-1 on Saturday evening in front of a sold-out crowd at Fifth Third Field.

Jason Krizan notched his ninth home run of the campaign to give the Mud Hens (67-63) the insurance it needed to defeat the Clippers (69-62).

Columbus got on the board first as Bobby Bradley doubled to score Adam Rosales and give the Clippers a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Toledo rallied in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead away from Columbus. Jacob Robson led off with a walk and stole second base. JaCoby Jones then flied out to deep right-center field moving Robson to third. Christin Stewart then earned a trip to first on a four-pitch walk. Dawel Lugo then singled up the middle to bring in Robson and tie the game. With runners on first and second, Jason Krizan hit a fly ball to the warning track in left field moving the runners to second and third. Daz Cameron then roped a double down the right field line to score Stewart and Lugo giving Toledo a 3-1 advantage after one inning.

Toledo starter Jacob Turner delivered seven innings of work allowing one run on eight hits while fanning five and walking one earning his third win of the season. Zac Reininger came in to pitch the eighth inning and took down the side in order, including one strikeout.

Johnny Barbato came on to pitch the ninth in a non-save situation. Barbato allowed one walk and no hits in the ninth as Toledo claimed its second straight win over the Clippers.

What's Next:

The Mud Hens take on the Clippers in game four of the three-game set at 4:05 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.

- With Toledo's victory and Indianapolis' loss, the Mud Hens trail the Indians and Clippers by 1.5 games in the division and the wild card with nine games remaining in the season.

- Tonight's crowd of 11,500 marks the 21st sellout of the season and the 484th in Fifth Third Field history.

- The Detroit Tigers on Thursday optioned RHP Zac Reininger to the Mud Hens. Prior to Friday's game, Detroit activated RHP Michael Fulmer from the 10-day disabled list. After Friday night's contest, RHP Spencer Turnbull was promoted from Erie to Toledo and RHP A.J. Ladwig was optioned from Toledo to Erie.
