Inland Empire 66ers News Release
San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers banged out 16 hits and won their second straight game over the High Desert Mavericks on Tuesday at San Manuel Stadium by a score of 8-4. The win was the Sixers' third win in a row overall and pushed them to 5-1 on the current homestand.
The clubs traded a pair of runs in the first inning and the Mavericks (64-44, 21-17) took a 3-2 lead in the fourth when Tripp Martin lined his 13th homer of the year to center. Inland Empire (38-71, 15-24) answered promptly in the bottom of the inning against Mavs' starter Collin Wiles (2-7) as Michael Hermosillo smacked a liner over the shallow-positioned CF Jose Cardona to knock in a pair of runs and give the Sixers a 4-2 lead. David Fletcher's sac fly scored Hermosillo to make it 5-2. The 66ers got five innings of work from starter Justin Anderson who improved to 6-10 on the year allowing three runs on seven hits with two walks and four Ks.
The Sixers added a run in the fifth on Michael Strentz' RBI triple, his team-best fifth sixth of the year; Strentz ran his hit-streak to ten games in the contest. Hutton Moyer added a RBI single in the sixth and Jeff Boehm capped the scoring for Inland Empire with a seventh inning RBI single. Moyer finished the night with three singles and a double with two RBI and a stolen base, his ninth. It was his second four-hit game of the year. Hermosillo finished with three hits while Strentz, Boehm, Roberto Baldoquin and Zach Houchins each had two-hit games.
The Sixers look for the sweep Wednesday at San Manuel Stadium at 7:05 pm. The contest can be heard live at 66ers.com and 1570 AM KPRO.
