LANCASTER, Calif. - Yulieski Gurriel went 3-for-4 in his JetHawks debut, but Lancaster blew a 7-1 lead and fell 10-9 in extra innings to the Lake Elsinore Storm on Tuesday night at The Hangar.
Gurriel, 32, who signed a major league contract with Houston on July 15, was lifted for a pinch runner after his single in the seventh. The Cuban finished the game with two singles and an RBI double.
After Lake Elsinore took advantage of a pair of Lancaster errors to score a run in the top of the first, the JetHawks responded in the bottom half with a two-run double by Bryan Muniz.
Lancaster added four more in the second. Osvaldo Duarte hit a two-run homer off the batter's eye in center, his third long ball in his 10th game with the JetHawks. Gurriel's RBI double brought in another run, and Muniz added a sacrifice fly. Keach Ballard gave the JetHawks a 7-1 lead with an RBI single in the third.
The Storm began their comeback with three runs in the fourth and tacked on three more in the fifth.
Franmil Reyes hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning, one of his four hits on the night. The 21-year old from the Dominican Republic had six RBI and came a triple shy of the cycle.
Lake Elsinore put up three runs in the top of the 12th inning against Alex Winkelman (0-3). The lefthander walked the first two batters of the frame before allowing three consecutive singles.
The JetHawks put together a rally in the bottom of the 12th with four straight one-out singles.
Jamie Ritchie and Osvaldo Duarte each drove in a run. Martires Arias (2-4), with the tying and winning runs on base, struck out Keach Ballard and Johnny Sewald to close out the game.
The JetHawks (60-48) and Storm (54-55) conclude their three-game series on Wednesday morning at The Hangar.
Rogelio Armenteros (6-2) will start for Lancaster against Lancaster native Jerry Keel, who will be making his High-A debut. First pitch is 11:05 a.m.
