Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

OMAHA, NE - Third baseman Mike Moustakas - recognized as one of the top prospects in Minor League Baseball - will join the Omaha Royals Thursday, as team resumes play in the Pacific Coast League at Nashville following tonight's Triple-A All-Star Game. Moustakas, 21, is being promoted from the Kansas City Royals' Double-A affiliate, Northwest Arkansas to its top-level, Triple-A club.

Moustakas was ranked in Baseball America's latest issue as the 12th-best prospect among the Top 25 Midseason prospects. Despite missing the first two weeks of this season with a strained right oblique, the left-handed batter leads the Texas League in all three triple-crown categories with a .347 average, 21 home runs and 76 RBI in 66 games. He also paces the league in slugging percentage (.687) and is second in on-base percentage (.413).

Kansas City's first round selection (second overall pick) in the 2007 draft out of Chatsworth High in California, Moustakas was a midseason All-Star in the Texas League and was selected to the MLB All-Star Futures Game this season.

In another move affecting Omaha's roster, shortstop Irving Falu will be placed on the temporary inactive list tomorrow to allow him to take part in the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games, where he will represent his native Puerto Rico. The 27-year old switch-hitter is batting .272 with 52 runs scored and a team-leading 13 stolen bases in 15 attempts, while playing in 85 of the O-Royals' 89 games this year.

Omaha opens an important eight-game road trip Thursday with a 7:05 p.m. game at Nashville. The Royals will play a pair of four-game series vs. the American North Division rival Sounds and Memphis Redbirds on the trip.

The Royals' next home game at Rosenblatt is Friday, July 23 at 7:05 p.m., when Omaha faces the New Orleans Zephyrs. The game will be followed by Werner Enterprises Friday Fireworks and a post-game concert by .38 Special, presented by Werner Enterprises and 96.1 The Brew.
