Don Logan to Receive ESPN 1100 Sportsman of the Year Award

LAS VEGAS- Local and national sports and entertainment celebrities along with ESPN Radio 1100 have confirmed their participation to help host "The Longest Radio Show Ever" on July 30 to benefit The Caring Place, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to easing the journey of those affected by cancer.

"The Longest Radio Show Ever" and "Sportsman of the Year" event began five years ago to help make The Caring Place a reality. The Caring Place offers no-cost services and programs to those battling cancer such as gentle yoga, massage therapy, meditation for stress reduction, nutrition classes and support groups provided by certified, licensed professionals that are intended to support conventional medical treatments.

The radio show will be broadcast from the Palms Casino and Resort for 24 hours beginning at 10 a.m. on July 30 and feature a myriad of celebrity hosts including Hall of Fame Showtime Boxing Announcer Al Bernstein, Hall of Fame Trainer and HBO Boxing Analyst Emanuel Steward, and National CBS Sportscaster Gus Johnson. Master Magician Lance Burton as well as Entertainers George Wallace and Clint Holmes will also host portions of the broadcast.

ESPN Radio 1100 listeners and others from around the country will have the opportunity to bid for a one-hour co-hosting spot with one or more of the participating celebrities. The bidding will begin at noon on July 15 and conclude at 6 p.m. on July 22, with most opening bids beginning at $100. Online bids can be placed at ESPN's website - www.wearelv.com - with all proceeds benefiting The Caring Place.

A cocktail reception for the Sportsman of the Year award recipient will begin at 7 p.m., providing guests an opportunity to mingle with multiple celebrities and sports figures, and watch a live performance by local comedic and magical genius Mac King.

The reception will be held at the Palms Casino Resort located at 4321 W. Flamingo Road. Tickets to the event are $50 per person or $450 for a table of 10, and can be purchased by calling 702-871-7333.

At 7 p.m., Las Vegas 51s General Manager Don Logan will be honored as ESPN 1100's Sportsman of the Year. Logan's career and dedication to Las Vegas began in 1983 when he joined the 51s, who were called the Las Vegas Stars then, as an account executive. He rose through the ranks, declined job offers from other baseball teams and became the general manager in 1991 and the team's president in 1999. Logan believes in giving back to the community and being a good community partner. He has brought events such as the Big League Weekend to Las Vegas and also serves as a board member for many organizations including the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Southern Nevada and Boys & Girls Club of Southern Nevada.

Previous Sportsman of the Year recipients include Sacramento Kings owners Joe and Gavin Maloof, UNLV basketball coach Ron Kruger, Boxing Promoter Bob Arum and Ultimate Fighting Championship president Dana White.
