Banks Takes the Loss as PCL Dropped 2-1 to IL
July 14, 2010 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Round Rock Express News Release
ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Round Rock pitcher Josh Banks allowed two runs in the sixth inning giving the International League a 2-1 comeback victory over the Pacific Coast League Wednesday night at the 2010 Triple-A All Star game at Coca-Cola Park, hosted by the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. The IL has defeated the PCL in six of the last eight Midsummer Classics, and holds a 7-6 lead over the PCL since they adopted the current format of IL against PCL in 1998.
Entering the sixth inning with a 1-0 lead, Banks, gave up a leadoff double to Louisville's Chris Valaika. With one out, Syracuse's Chase Lambin doubled to plate Valaika to even the score. The next batter, Durham's Elliot Johnson, singled bringing in the Lambin.
Banks, earned the loss, allowing two runs and three hits in his only inning of work. The Round Rock starter didn't have a walk or punch out, throwing 16 pitches, 11 of which were deemed to be strikes.
Rochester's Anthony Slama was awarded the win, after working a spotless top half of the sixth.
Both teams had 16 pitchers combine for 16 strikeouts, while allowing only 10 hits, in the crisply played pitchers' duel.
Banks, the lone representative for the Express, replaced Brian Bogusevic on the PCL roster. Bogusevic, who originally was selected to the team as a reserve outfielder, underwent a minor medical procedure on Monday.
Signed by the Astros to a Minor League contract on Jan. 4, 2010, Banks, leads the Express staff with an 8-6 record and 2.98 ERA in 17 starts. He ranks second in the PCL in innings pitched with 111.2, trailing only teammate Andy Van Hekkend who's worked 112.1 innings.
Round Rock returns to action on Thursday, opening a four-game series at Albuquerque. First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. CDT at Isotopes Park.
