Vermont Mountaineers News Release
The Vermont Mountaineers walked off with a win on Saturday night, as they topped the Danbury Westerners 7-6 thanks to a game-winning walk issued to right fielder Troy Scocca (Syosset, N.Y./Fairfield).
The Mountaineers took a tie game into the ninth when Trevor Ezell (Alexander, Ark./Southeast Missouri) reached on an error, and then Ryan Fineman (Bloomington, Ind./Indiana) and Jeremy McCuin (Gilbert, Ariz./Arizona St.) both walked to load the bases. With two outs, the bases loaded and a full count, Scocca took ball four, allowing Ezell to score and the Mountaineers to pick up the win.
Vermont got roughed up for three runs in the top of the first inning. Giovanni Dingcong (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Thomas Aquinas) ripped a big RBI double, driving in two to give Danbury the lead. Dingcong later scored on an error by the Mountaineers' catcher.
Aside from the three runs in the first- only two of which were earned- Mountaineers starter Davis Feldman (Warren, Mich./Eastern Michigan) threw a good game. The righty pitched six full innings, allowing five earned runs on six hits. Feldman scattered seven strikeouts and one walk.
From the seventh inning on, Vermont turned it over to Chandler Sedat (West Bloomfield, Mich./Indiana), who tossed three innings in relief, allowing no runs on just three hits.
Westerners starter Dylan Stock (Bellmore, N.Y./Binghamton) pitched four innings, allowing three runs on four hits. Stock walked four and struck out two.
The Mountaineers got a run in the bottom of the second when Trevor Ezell scored thanks to an errant throw to third base by Danbury's catcher.
Vermont rallied for four more runs in the fifth when they capitalized on five hits and an error. Mikael Mogues (New York, N.Y./Seton Hall) got them started with a big two-run double, driving in Scocca and Joe Tietjen (Waxhaw, N.C./UNC Asheville). That was followed by an RBI groundout by Ryan Fineman and an RBI double by DH Slade Heggen (Missoula, Mo./Oregon).
The Westerners came back to score a pair of runs in the top of the seventh when Nick Gatewood (Dulduth, Ga./Georgia St.) and Coco Montes (Miami, Fla./South Florida) came across to give Danbury the lead again.
Mogues came through again for Vermont in the eighth with an RBI double that drove in Tietjen. That hit tied the game up going into the ninth.
Sedat got the win for Vermont, improving him to 1-0 on the season. Westerners reliever Daniel Jagiello (West Islip, N.Y./Long Island) suffered the loss, as he walked in the winning run. The righty went two and one thirds innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits.
The Mountaineers improve to 3-11 on the season. They will travel to North Adams, Mass. tomorrow to take on the Steeple Cats for the second time in three days. First pitch is set for 4:30 PM at Joe Wolfe Field. The game can be heard locally on CBS Sports 1240 AM WSKI or online through The NECBL Broadcast Network.
