Brantford Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ONTARIO. Logan Morrison became the sixth Hamilton Bulldogs player this season to score a hat-trick, while Arthur Kaliyev recorded 5 assists in the game to power the Bulldogs to a 7-1 victory over the Niagara Ice Dogs.
The Hamilton Bulldogs got off to a slow start in St. Catharines being outshot 5-1 through the first half of the opening frame but a Too Many Men penalty against Niagara would quickly turn the feel of the game. Nathan Staios would control the puck on the left side of the offensive zone, dropping the puck back to Kade Landry in the middle of the line who in turn set the returning Arthur Kaliyev for a one-timer that would be tipped right in front of new IceDogs goaltender Andrew MacLean by Tag Bertuzzi to give the Bulldogs the 1-0 lead at 10:05 on Bertuzzi's 18th of the year. That would be followed just 40 seconds later as Nathan Staios would feed Arthur Kaliyev marching straight down the slot and letting a shot go that would bounce off MacLean only to be found by Logan Morrison who would push the puck into the net for his 16th of the season, giving the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. Late in the period the Bulldogs would be challenged with Niagara on a 5-on-3 power-play but the Bulldogs would show tremendous patience in killing it off and head to the locker room on the back 8 saves from Zachary Roy with a 2-0 lead.
The offensive onslaught continued into the second period, just 1:25 into the frame Tag Bertuzzi would bring the puck around the back of the Niagara goal, feeding Cameron Supryka at the left point who connected with Michael Renwick stepping down from the right point and rocketing a shot past Andrew MacLean for his 3rd of the year. The Bulldogs would bubble the lead to four at 4:18 as Logan Morrison would record his 2nd of the game, 17th of the season picking up a loose puck from an Arthur Kaliyev shot for the second time in the game and punching it into the Niagara net for the 4-0 lead. Niagara would get one back as a tremendous individual rush from Ivan Lodnia on the power-play would lead to a short two-on-one, feeding Oliver Castleman for his 16th of the season at 9:44 making it a 4-1 game. Hamilton would answer back less than two minutes later on a power-play of their own, with Arthur Kaliyev feeding Cameron Supryka at the left point, who would fire a slap pass right to the tape of Logan Morrison for Morrison's hat-trick goal and 18th of the year giving the Bulldogs a 5-1 lead at 11:02, which they would take to the locker room after 40 minutes.
The Bulldogs would cap off the night with a pair in the third period, first Tag Bertuzzi on the power-play would pick up his 2nd of the night, 19th of the season off a great cross seam pass from Arthur Kaliyev to Logan Morrison who found Bertuzzi in front to bat the puck in and make it 6-1. Finally, Isaac Nurse would take a pass from Jake Gravelle and walk down the slot to beat MacLean for his 9th of the season at 17:25 to close out a 7-1 Hamilton Bulldogs victory.
The Hamilton Bulldogs will return to action playing host to the Sarnia Sting on Saturday, January 11th at 4pm.
