London Knights News Release
The London Knights would like to announce that they have acquired over-age forward Jason Willms from the Barrie Colts for over-age forward Josh Nelson and two picks in the OHL Priority Selection.
London Knights General Manager, Mark Hunter, had the following to say regarding the acquisition of Willms: "We are pleased to have Jason join the London Knights organization. His physical presence on the ice is hard not to notice. He is effective at creating chances and driving offense using his body. We believe he will have an immediate impact both on and off the ice for our team."
Willms was originally selected in the 3rd Round, 43rd overall in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection by the Barrie Colts. Since joining the OHL as a 16-year old in 2015, Willms has played in 239 OHL games, collecting 78 goals and 91 assists for 169 points over that span. Willms has served as the captain of the Colts since last season. The Kitchener, Ontario native is in his final season in the Ontario Hockey League, playing this season as an over-age player.
"The London Knights would like to thank Josh for his time here in London," said Knights' General Manager Mark Hunter. "He was a great member of the organization on and off the ice as well as in the community. He demonstrated tremendous leadership and determination throughout his time here and we wish him all the best moving forward."
Nelson joined the Knights in 2016 after signing with the team as a free agent. The Lockport, Illinois native has spent the past three and a half seasons with the organization, playing 206 games and collecting 70 points. Nelson is in his final season in the Ontario Hockey League, playing this season as an overage player.
