Amarillo Dillas News Release
AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Dillas needed good pitching to propel them to their first win in seven contests and that's exactly what they got from starter Shawn Morrison and a pair of relievers in a 5-2 win over the Laredo Broncos on Saturday night in front of 4,651 at the Amarillo National Dilla Villa.
Morrison (4-3) struck out a season high six batters while walking only two in the win. Laredo starter Luis Arroyo (7-4) got the loss despite a complete game where he allowed ten hits and five runs while striking out two. Dillas reliever Drew Jackson earned his sixth save of the season in a perfect ninth inning of work.
Amarillo would score first in the third inning. Josh Ashton led off with a double, Jordan Ramos singled and Jonathan Reynoso walked to load the bases with no outs. Ryan Crespi hit into a fielder's choice to score Ashton while Justin Wenger singled to score Ramos and Carlos Figueroa singled to score Crespi for a 3-0 Dillas lead.
After the Broncos scored their first run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly, the Dillas would come back with two more in the sixth. Ashton singled to score Gary Schneidmiller while Crespi grounded out to score Rick Owens Jr. for a 5-1 lead.
Laredo would add another in the eighth after an Edwin Maldonado fielder's choice RBI, but Amarillo reliever Nick Burger and Jackson would finish of the rest of the lineup to snap the Dillas six-game losing streak with a 5-2 victory.
With the win, the Dillas improve to 18-19 on the second-half of the season and 44-43 overall. Sunday, the Dillas will take on the Broncos for the final game of a three-game series at 6:05 pm with Dillas Pre-Game set to begin at 5:50 pm on 1010 AM The Canyon and online via AudioSportsOnline.com.
