Belleville Bulls News Release

OSHAWA, ON - The Belleville Bulls open up a home-and-home series with the Eastern Conference leading Oshawa Generals at the GM Centre on Friday night. The Generals, who are still ranked number one in the CHL, are coming off back-to-back wins on home ice last weekend and will be looking to continue the trend. The Bulls however dropped their last contest, falling 7-3 to the visiting Kingston Frontenacs. Puck drop is set for 7:35.

In front of a sold out crowd, the Gens opened up the scoring half way through the first frame and didn't look back on route to a 5-3 victory. Goal scorers for Oshawa were Michael Dal Colle, Will Petschenig, Cole Cassels (2) and Bradley Latour. Cassels also picked up an assist to make it a three-point night. 1996-born netminder Jeremy Brodeur got the start and made 24 saves in the win.

Dal Colle, the New York Islanders draft pick, leads the Generals offensively with 37 tallies and 47 assists in 49 games played. Cassels is not far behind with 25 goals and 45 helpers in 45 games played. The Columbus, Ohio native has picked up 9 points in the last 5 games for Gens, who have already clinched the OHL's Eastern Conference. Goaltender Kenny Appleby has been the best in the league between the pipes all season long and continues to be with a 2.12 goals against average.

After being tied at one after the opening period, the visiting Frontenacs exploded with a 6-goal second stanza and defeated the Bulls for the first time at the Yardmen Arena this season. Goal scorers for the Bulls were forwards David Tomasek, Matt Luff and blue liner Justin Lemcke. Both Charlie Graham and Connor Hicks saw action. Graham made 30 saves while Hicks made 4 stops in 13 minutes of ice time.

Defenceman Jordan Subban, who will be honoured for his record-breaking season on Saturday night at the Yardmen Arena, leads his squad with 22 goals and 22 assists. Over age left winger, Brett Gustavsen has been strong recently picking up 9 points in 8 games totaling 18 markers and 18 assists.

With only ten games remaining in the regular season, just three points separate the Bulls from the eighth place Peterborough Petes. The Mississauga Steelheads, who are in ninth place, sit five points behind the Petes and continue to fight for their playoff lives. The Bulls will see the Gens three more times before the end of their schedule.
