Belleville Bulls News Release

OSHAWA, ON - The Belleville Bulls opened up a home-and-home series with the Eastern Conference leading Oshawa Generals on Friday night. Oshawa jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they doubled up the visiting Bulls 8-4.

In front of a sold out crowd at the GM Centre the Gens came out firing early, testing rookie netminder Connor Hicks with a number of scoring chances. It didn't take long for Oshawa to find the back of the yet as 1995-bron centre Bradley Latour jumped on a loose puck in the slot and made no mistake potting his 21st of the campaign. Line mates Cole Cassels and Hunter Smith picked up the helpers on the games first goal.

Ten minutes later the visiting Bulls had an answer. Forward Brandon Saigeon found Jordan Subban as he stepped over the blue line. The Vancouver Canucks prospect ripped one blocker side past Jeremy Brodeur for his franchise leading 23rd goal of the season.

In the dying minutes of the frame, the Generals top line was at it again. This time Latour returned the favour and set up Cassels who hammered a one timer past Hicks. Smith added his second assist of the game on the goal. Oshawa led 16-9 in shots after twenty minutes of action.

Things began to get a little chippy in the second period. Teams exchanged penalties but neither club could light the lamp while on the man advantage. With 3:22 left, Generals captain Josh Brown hit Maurizio Colella, shattering the glass into the crowd and ending the stanza early. The remaining time was added to the start of the third period. The Gens led 21-18 in shots as teams headed to their respective dressing rooms.

During the added time Whitby, Ontario native Matt Mistele gave his club two-goal lead when he scored his 32nd of the season. Tobias Lindberg and Michael McCarron added the helpers. The Bulls answered right back, however as Captain Brett Welychka jammed home his 14th of the year unassisted with eight seconds remaining.

When the third period officially began, the Generals kept their foot on the gas and proved why they are the number one team in the country. Just under a minute in, Mistele tucked in his 2nd of the game to give his team a 4-2 lead. Lindberg and McCarron picked up the assists once again. The Generals weren't finished, at 6:17 defenceman Mitchell Vande Sompel finished off a pass from forward Anthony Cirelli to put the Gens ahead 5-2. Just over two minutes later Kenny Huether tallied his ninth of the season from Vande Sompel and Aiden Wallace.

About two minutes later, Saigeon added his second point of the night and stopped the bleeding, at least for the moment, when he took a pass from Matt Luff and sniped his eighth of the year past Brodeur.

Smith and Pedersen added one more each for Oshawa and Cramarossa potted another for Belleville. Brodeur made 18 saves while Hicks stopped 20 pucks. 8-4 was the final score at the GM Centre.
