Kitchener Rangers News Release

Darby Llewellyn scored the lone Kitchener Rangers goal in a 5-1 loss to the North Bay Battalion on Friday night. Mike Davies earned an assist on the goal, extending his recent point streak to a fifth game.

The Battalion struck early in the first period, opening the scoring 62 seconds into the contest. Swedish winger Alex Henriksson snuck a shot past Rangers starter Jake Paterson to pick up his 18th of the season. Assists on the play were credited to Ryan Kujawinksi and team-scoring leader Mike Amadio.

The Rangers responded just past the five minute mark. Mike Davies' behind the net pass connected with Darby Llewellyn in front of North Bay's net. The veteran winger lifted the puck past Jake Kment for his 17th of the season. Davies' assist extends his recent point streak to a fifth game, dating back to Family Day in Belleville. Gustaf Franzen also earned an assist on the play.

Nick Paul put the Battalion back in front with less than seven minutes to play in the first. The Troops controlled the puck off a faceoff in Rangers territory, moving it to Miles Liberati at the blueline. The former Knights rearguard's point shot was blocked, but Paul jumped on the rebound, pushing it past Paterson for his 32nd of the season.

The Battalion led shots on goal 7-5 after 20 minutes.

North Bay extended its lead to two goals just past the midway point. Nick Moutrey fired a shot through traffic to pick up his 19th of the season. Helpers on the play were credited to Brett McKenzie and Zach Shankar.

McKenzie earned his second point of the night late in the frame, racing to catch a loose puck and snapping it by Paterson to put the Battalion ahead 4-1. Moutrey and Paul also picked up their second points of the night with the assists on McKenzie's ninth of the year.

North Bay led shots on goal 11-7 in the second period.

The Battalion added a shorthanded marker with less than seven minutes to play, jumping ahead 5-1. Paul jumped on a turnover inside of his own blueline and carried it down the ice, shovelling it into an empty Kitchener net. The unassisted goal was the Ottawa Senators prospect's second of the night.

North Bay led shots on goal 7-4 in the third period and 25-16 overall. The teams split their two game season series with one road win apiece.
