Belleville Bulls News Release

PETERBOROUGH, ON - The Belleville Bulls look to continue their winning ways as they head back to Peterborough to take on a familiar East Division rival. The Bulls are coming off a come from behind win over the Sudbury Wolves in their Home Opener last Saturday night. The Pete's however dropped their last contest at the hands of the Kingston Frontenacs and continue to search for their first win of the season.

An energetic crowd packed the Yardmen Arena on Saturday, September 27th as the Bulls opened the home half of their campaign. Fresh off a victory over the Niagara Ice Dogs, the Sudbury Wolves we're in town and quieted the crowd early on as Matt Schmalz potted the first goal of the game. The lead didn't last long as newly acquired Brett Gustavsen scored his first as a Belleville Bull and tied it up at ones to end the first period. A penalty filled second period saw both teams exchange multiple power plays but neither could capitalize on the man advantage and a scoreless frame kept the score tied after 40 minutes of play. Charlie Graham and Samuel Tanguay were tested early and often in the third as both squads came out firing looking for the go ahead goal. Half way through the period Michael Cramarossa gave the Bulls a late lead with helpers from rookie Jack Hanley and Chad Heffernan. With their backs against the wall the Wolves couldn't answer and the Belleville Bulls added their second win in as many games. Brett Gustavsen was named first star of the contest.

In a rematch of the Eastern Conference Quarter Finals just six months ago, the Kingston Frontenacs returned to the Peterborough Memorial Centre looking for revenge from a devastating collapse after being up three games to none. Kingston was again up 3-0 in this game and held on for a 5-3 win despite a late run by the Petes. Kingston controlled most of the period and wasted no time getting on the board as Robert Polesello scored just 44 seconds into the game. The Fronts would add one more thanks to Spencer Watson and lead 2-0 after the first 20 minutes. Kingston's hot play would continue in the second period, as Corey Pawley would add another to the goal column with assists from Mack Lemmon and Chad Duchesne. Despite a 3-0 defecate, the Pete's lead 26-25 in shots heading into the third. The Frontenacs silenced the Peterborough faithful with another goal to begin the third stanza but the Petes insisted on making it a game in their home opener. A late Peterborough surge got started by captain Connor Boland who had just returned from the Edmonton Oilers training camp. He scored 2 goals in a third period come back effort that fell just short. Greg Betzold also buried his first of the season in the frame. Lawson Crouse sealed the deal for the Frontenacs late in the period and put his team up 5-3, which was the final score of the game. Former Bulls goaltender Jason Da Silva made 27 saves.

The Bulls went 1-1 against the Petes in preseason action, falling 4-3 in a shootout on September 1st and winning 6-1 on September 13th at the Yardmen Arena. The Pete's will get a boost up front as winger Nick Ritchie returns to the line up after attending training camp with the Anaheim Ducks. The 6'3 229lbs forward from Orangeville went 10th overall to the Ducks in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Ritchie scored 39 goals and added 35 assists a season ago for the Petes. You can get full play by play coverage on 800 CJBQ starting at 6:30 PM. Puck drop from the Peterborough Memorial Centre is set for 7:05.
