Belleville Bulls News Release
PETERBOROUGH, ON - Looking to extend their 2 game win streak the Belleville Bulls hit the road Thursday to take on a familiar foe, the Peterborough Petes. Rookie goaltender Connor Hicks saw his first OHL start between the pipes at the Peterborough Memorial Centre. The Pete's jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they defeated the visiting Bulls 7-3.
The Petes put Hicks to work early as they lead 10-2 in shots to begin the frame. While continuing to apply the pressure with a number of chances, Cobourg, Ontario native Josh Maguire netted his first of the season with helpers from Connor Boland and Artem Vladimirov at 6:29 to put the Petes up 1-0. The early lead didn't last long however as forward Brett Gustavsen wired his second as a Belleville Bull past rookie Dylan Wells with an assist from defenceman Jack Hanley at 12:36. Shortly after, Peterborough's Matt McCartney was called for high-sticking but the Bulls could not find the back of the net on the man advantage. Connor Hicks made some big saves late in what was a sloppy first period to keep the score tied at one after 20 minutes of play.
Looking for the go ahead marker, both teams came out firing to begin the second stanza. An early Peterborough penalty from Matt Spencer saw the Bulls enjoy their second power play of the contest. Adam Laishram made the Petes pay as he gave his club their first lead of the game at 4:37. Veterans Remi Elie and Jordan Subban picked up helpers on the play. The lead was short lived though, 4 minutes later Petes forward Hunter Garlent slid one passed Hicks to tie the game up at two. Building off of their momentum the Petes found themselves taking the lead again. At 13:11 Dominik Masin added his first of the campaign with assists from Garlent and Nick Ritchie, who just returned from training camp with the Anaheim Ducks. Belleville's Gustavsen took a late kneeing penalty to end the frame and the Petes lead 3-2 as both squads headed to the dressing room. Peterborough lead 29-26 in shots.
Picking up right where they left off, Adam Timleck scored in his OHL debut just 2:42 into the third frame to give Peterborough the 4-2 lead. Just minutes later the Bulls again cut the lead in half as Elie, who is fresh off signing an entry level contract with the Dallas Stars ripped one top shelf off a beautiful pass from Laishram. That's as close as the Bulls would get however as Masin potted his second of the game on the power play this time from Matt Spencer and Garlent. Ritchie and overager Josh MacDonald also got in on the action and added two more for the Petes with assists from Matt Spencer and Garlent, who had an impressive 4 point night. Masin, Garlent and Cornel were the first, second and third stars. Hicks made 33 saves in his first start for the Bulls.

24 hours later the Bulls are right back at it Friday night as they take on another East Division rival, the Kingston Frontenacs. The first half of a home-and-home is set for 7:00 PM from the Rogers K-Rock Centre. 800 CJBQ will have live play-by-play coverage. The Frontenacs then visit the friendly city on Sunday for an afternoon match up at the Yardmen Arena. It is QCF Go Purple Day as October is child abuse prevention month.
