Morlang Released, Desrochers and Manzano To Sign

BRIDGEPORT, CT – The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, have announced the release of right wing John Morlang from a professional tryout contract. The Sound Tigers have also announced plans to sign center Jean Desrochers and defenseman Ian Manzano to PTO's. Desrochers and Manzano are slated to join the Sound Tigers tomorrow from the ECHL's Johnstown Chiefs.

Morlang posted six goals, nine assists, 15 points and 19 penalty minutes in 46 AHL games with the Sound Tigers, as well as 16 goals, 21 assists, 37 points and 40 penalty minutes in 36 games with the United Hockey League's Danbury Trashers this season.

Desrochers, 25, led Johnstown with 33 assists and 52 points and also had 19 goals and 29 penalty minutes in 72 ECHL games this season. The 6'2'' 225-pounder from Dalhousie, Quebec played the previous four seasons, 2000-04, with Clarkson University of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Manzano, who will turn 28 later this month, had one goal, 21 assists, 22 points and 31 penalty minutes in 71 ECHL games with the Chiefs this season. The 6'1'' 200-pounder from Dorval, Quebec also played 71 ECHL games for Johnstown and appeared in one AHL game with the Binghamton Senators last season. He split the previous season, 2002-03, between the Chiefs and the AHL's Saint John Flames and made his professional debut during the 2002 playoffs with the Central Hockey League's Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs after four years, 1998-2002, at Clarkson.

The Sound Tigers will visit the Albany River Rats this Wednesday at 7 p.m. and return home to finish the season with a pair of games at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard against the Manchester Monarchs this Saturday at 7:05 p.m. and the Hershey Bears this Sunday at 4:05 p.m. All three games will be broadcast live at www.soundtigers.com.
