Manitoba Moose News Release
Yann Danis stopped 21 shots as the Hamilton Bulldogs triumphed over Manitoba 4-1 for the second straight game. The Moose now head out on the road where they'll meet Edmonton for a two-game set.
Wade Flaherty received his first start in seven games this afternoon, while Yann Danis got the call for Hamilton.
The Moose came out on the offensive early, swarming the Bulldogs net. Kevin Bieksa threw a high pass over to Josh Green in the slot. Green batted it out of the air but it missed the net.
Brookbank had a chance to score several minutes later and was denied by Danis who slid over to make the stop.
Hamilton came back down the ice with a scoring chance of their own. Steve Begin broke into the
Seven minutes into the first, Wade Brookbank and Raitis Ivanans engaged in a fight. The two combatants grabbed on and wrestled until the officials broke it up. With no punches thrown, each was given two minutes for roughing. The two minutes moved Brookbank to 283 on the season, matching Jason MacDonald's record mark set in 1998-99.
The Bulldogs struck for the game's first goal at the 13:49 mark of the first. Steve Begin fired the puck low glove side past Flaherty from the top of the left faceoff circle.
Hamilton netted their second of the game 1:33 later on a shot by Marc-Andre Thinel from the blueline that bounced past Flaherty.
After one period, Hamilton had a 2-0 lead and a 6-4 shot advantage on Manitoba.
The Moose came out in the second outshooting Hamilton 5-1 in the first seven minutes. However, the Bulldogs took advantage of a Justin Morrison penalty to net their third goal of the game. Trevor Daley took a pass from the right faceoff dot and rifled it high for the goal.
The hosts took advantage of a chance to get back in the game when Andrew Archer took a holding penalty. Three seconds into the powerplay, Lee Goren skated out from behind the net and stuffed it in past Danis.
Jason Ward sprung loose for a shorthanded breakaway late in the second, chipping the puck around Baumgartner on his own blueline. Before he could make his move, Danny Groulx skated back and poked the puck away to the corner.
In the final minute, the Moose almost scored on Danis on several occasions but the rookie Bulldogs netminder stood tall amidst a goalmouth scramble.
After two periods, shots were 16-12 overall with the Moose holding a 12-6 shot advantage in the middle frame.
Hamilton looked to go ahead 4-1 early in the third when the Bulldogs contested that a shot went through the Moose net. After reviewing with the goal judge, officials determined it did not go in although video replays proved otherwise.
The Moose had a two-man advantage midway through the period but failed to generate any offence in the Hamilton zone. Shots on goal 12 minutes into the period were 1-0 in favour of the Moose.
The Bulldogs scored on their first shot of the period while on a powerplay. Mike Komisarek fired a shot from the blueline that went top corner over Flaherty's shoulder that made it a 4-1 game.
Overall, shots in the third were 6-3 for the Moose and 22-15 overall but it was Hamilton that went home with the victory.
