Opponents take three of four from Moose at MTC Centre
April 11, 2005 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Manitoba Moose News Release
The Manitoba Moose finished a four-game homestand this past week, winning one of four games. The Moose split a two-game set with Syracuse and then were swept by the Hamilton Bulldogs. On Tuesday, Lee Goren netted his third hat-trick of the season en route to a 4-3 Manitoba win. Wednesday, the Crunch had their revenge as a flurry of four thirdperiod goals -- two by each team -- contributed to a 4-3 Syracuse victory.
Saturday and Sunday, Hamilton defeated the Moose by identical 4-1 scores despite being outshot 54-29 over the weekend. The regular season concludes this week with a pair of road games in Edmonton Tuesday and Wednesday followed by two home games against the Cleveland Barons Friday and Saturday.
MOOSE NOTES
Playoff Dates Announced: The Manitoba Moose announced today the playoff dates for their opening round series against St. John's. Regardless of order of finish, games one and two will be played in St. John's April 20 and 22 due to a booking conflict at Mile One Stadium. Games three, four and five (if necessary) will be at the MTS Centre April 25, 27 and 29. Game six will be held at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto April 30 and game seven will be back at the MTS Centre May 2 unless the Moose finish third, in which case it will be at the ACC.
Goren Ties Moose Record: This past week, Lee Goren netted three powerplay goals, bringing his total for the season to 16. With 16 powerplay markers, Goren has tied Scott Thomas for the most in franchise history. Thomas had 16 powerplay goals in 1998-99.
Bieksa named to AHL All-Rookie Team: Manitoba Moose defenceman Kevin Bieksa was named to the 2004-05 AHL All-Rookie Team this past week. So far, the Grimsby, ON native has played in all 76 games this season and has recorded 10 goals and 26 assists for 36 points which is a team rookie record, as well as collecting 185 penalty minutes. He is currently 21st in scoring amongst AHL defencemen and is 12th in scoring amongst AHL rookies. He leads the rookie class though with a +/- rating of +19. Bieksa becomes the first member of the Moose to be named to the AHL All-Rookie Team since the Moose entered the AHL in 2001.
Brookbank Ties PIM Record: Manitoba Moose defenceman/winger Wade Brookbank's two penalty minutes received on Sunday matched the Moose franchise record for penalty minutes in a season. Through 64 games, Brookbank has 283 PIM. Back in 1998-99, Jason MacDonald also accumulated 283 PIM.
Moose Stingy On Shot Clock: In Saturday's 4-1 victory over the Manitoba Moose, the Hamilton Bulldogs only registered 14 shots on net. That ties for the second- fewest shots allowed by a Moose team in a game in their history. Last season, the Moose only allowed nine shots on net, but still lost 1-0 to the Syracuse Crunch on March 6/04. The Moose have allowed 14 shots on net on four other occasions.
However, they have just one win in the five games they've now allowed 14 or less shots on net in a game. The 14 shots allowed is a season-low for the Moose, who have now allowed 20 shots or less on net in a game ten times and have a record of 6-4-0-0 in those games. Manitoba only allowed 15 shots Sunday against Hamilton but were toppled again, 4-1.
