Morgan, Stassi Help Cutters Sink Scrappers

August 30, 2011 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Williamsport Crosscutters News Release

The Williamsport Crosscutters defeated the Mahoning Valley Scrappers 4-2 Tuesday night behind a stellar pitching effort and a clutch two-run double by Brock Stassi.

Stassi got the Cutters on the board early, as his two-run double in the second made it 2-0 Williamsport. The Cutters added two more in the fifth, using an RBI single from Kyrell Hudson and a sac fly by Bob Stumpo to go up 4-0. The Scrappers made it 4-2 in the top of the sixth, using two Cutters errors and two hits to trim the lead.

That score would be the final, however, as the Cutters picked up four shutout innings of relief from their bullpen. Starting pitcher Adam Morgan finished with five innings pitched, allowing two unearned runs and striking out a career-high seven batters. Austin Brough, Paul Cusick, and Gabriel Arias combined to finish off the Scrappers out the bullpen, as Arias earned his seventh save of the year.

With the win, the Cutters remain tied for the Wild Card lead and are still two games behind Auburn for the Pinckney Division lead. Williamsport and Mahoning Valley now head to Ohio to finish the season series in two more games. Every game can be heard on ESPN Radio 104.1 FM, ESPN 1050 AM, or online at crosscutters.com
