Norwich Sea Unicorns News Release

NORWICH, CT - Behind a brilliant pitching performance from Brennan Smith the Connecticut Tigers took down the Hudson Valley Renegades 5-0 on Tuesday night at Dodd Stadium.

Smith retired the first eleven Renegades batters that he faced before a two-out single from Jeff Malm in the fourth inning. He earned his fourth win of the year by tossing a nine-inning complete game shutout, which is just the fourth in the league all year. He gave up five hits, while not walking anyone and striking out three.

Smith needed just 107 pitched for the complete game, as he has now tossed 30 consecutive scoreless innings over his last four starts.

The Tigers offense got going in the first inning on back-to-back doubles from Tyler Collins and Dean Green. Green's double scored Collins and gave Connecticut a 1-0 lead.

Jeff Holm led off the second inning with a triple off the wall in right field. Matt Perry and Colin Kaline then drew consecutive four-pitch walks to load the bases. Javier Azcona came through with a two-run single, followed by a RBI singles from Chad Wright and P.J. Polk to extend the Tigers lead to 5-0.

Green finished 2-for-4 with an RBI double, while Holm went 2-for-4 as well in the Connecticut victory.

Andrew Bellatti suffered the loss, giving up all five runs in four innings of work for Hudson Valley.

The Tigers will play the second game of the three-game series with Renegades tomorrow night. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM at Dodd Stadium.
