Tonight's Game

The Aberdeen IronBirds will try to snap a five-game losing streak tonight as they welcome the Tri-City ValleyCats (Class-A Short-Season affiliate of the Houston Astros) to town for the opener of a three-game series. The IronBirds were swept in a double-header last night at the Staten Island Yankees. The IronBirds fell in game one 4-3, and were shutout game two 5-0. Tonight, Aberdeen will have right-hander Jose Mota on the hill. Mota is making his fourth start of the season for the IronBirds. He'll go up against left-hander Kyle Hallock.

Five New Players

The IronBirds added five new players to their roster from the GCL Orioles. Right-handed pitchers Miguel Chalas and Jose Nivar, left-handed pitchers Eduardo Rodriguez and Jorge Rivera, and infielder Tommy Winegardner have joined the team. The Orioles made the GCL playoffs this season, but fell in their single elimination semi-final game against the GCL Yankees.

Hobgood Placed on DL

IronBirds starting pitcher Matt Hobgood has been placed on the Disabled List. Hobgood went 0-6 in eight outings (seven starts) for Aberdeen in 2011. He had a 10.46 ERA. Hobgood was the first-round pick of the Baltimore Orioles in 2009.

Howard Placed on Inactive List

Starting pitcher Trent Howard has been placed on the Temporarily Inactive List by the Orioles. Howard, who was Baltimore seventh-round pick in 2011, has returned to Central Michigan University for the fall semester.

Double-Headers

The IronBirds were swept in a double-header last night at Staten Island. Aberdeen dropped to 0-4 in double-header games. The ValleyCats were also swept in a double-header last night against the Lowell Spinners. The IronBirds will play another double-header on Friday, September 2nd, at the Hudson Valley Renegades.

ValleyCats

Tri-City is one of three teams in the New York-Penn League which the IronBirds have a winning record against. Aberdeen took two of three games at the ValleyCats in early July. All-time, the IronBirds are 25-19 against the ValleyCats.
