Morgan Pitches Gem in Juice Victory

June 7, 2007 - Aiken, SC- The Bradenton Juice combined timely hitting with a superb pitching performance by Lavelle Morgan to defeat the Aiken Foxhounds 4-0. Morgan was spectacular on the mound and catcher Drew York drove in half of the Juice runs handing the Foxhounds their first ever home loss.

The game was scoreless until Bradenton catcher Drew York led off the Top of the 3rd inning with a solo home run over the left field wall.

The Juice added its second run in the 6th when the second batter of the inning Luke Barganier hit an infield single. Two batters later first baseman Eddie Kim hit a double slicing down the left field line that scored Barganier. This is Kim's 11th RBI of the season.

Bradenton added two insurance runs in the 9th inning when Brenan Herrera led off with a single to left field. Two batters later Drew York doubled to left field driving in Herrera from second base. The fourth and final run was driven in by Julius Thames when he singled to left field plating York.

On the mound for the Juice Lavelle Morgan had the best pitching performance of the season for Bradenton. Morgan had everything working tonight as he pitched a complete game one hitter, walking two batters, and striking out 11. Morgan shut out the top hitting team in the league and he held an Aiken team that averages 10.5 runs a game at home scoreless. Morgan improves his record to 2-1 while Anthony Telford takes the loss falling to 0-2. Telford came on with one out in the second inning when starter Tim Drew left with with a muscle strain. Telford pitched 5.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits, walking 0, and striking out 4.

YORK'S BREAKOUT PERFORMACE

Bradenton's Drew York had his best game at the plate going 3 for 4 with a home run, a single, and an RBI double in the 9th. Drew's homer marks the third consecutive game where a Juice player has homered setting a team record.

With the win Bradenon improves to 10-7 while Aiken falls to 13-5.

RHP Derek Hawk is scheduled to start on the mound for Bradenton in the middle game of the series against Aiken on Friday night at Roberto Hernandez Stadium at USC-Aiken. First pitch is set for 7:05.
