Juice Sweep Doubleheader Vs. Redfish

Port Charlotte, FL- Coming back to the state of Florida did the Bradenton Juice well on Monday as the Juice swept a doubleheader vs. the Charlotte County Redfish. Bradenton won the first game 7-6 and 3-1 was the margin of victory in the second contest.

Charlotte County scored first in the Top of the 1st of game one when Jared Williams drew a walk and then P.J. Lehmann walked. Then Billy Hogan smacked a double to left field scoring Williams and Lehmann putting the Redfish up 2-0.

The Juice countered with a run in the bottom of the inning when Al Corbeil hit a one-out singe to center field before Eddie Kim singled to left field. Up next Brenan Herrera hit another single to right field plating Corbeil cutting the Redfish lead to 2-1.

Bradenton added 3 more runs in the 2nd with Drew York hitting a one-out single to right field. Two batters later Julius Thames drew a walk and then Luke Barganier singled to right field scoring York tying the game at two. After Al Corbeil walked Eddie Kim singled to center field driving home Thames and Barganier giving the Juice a 4-2 lead.

The Redfish would take the lead in the Top of the 4th when Josh Murray drew a two-out walk and then he came home when Jose Gutierrez doubled to left field. Then Mike Muscato plated Gutierrez by singling to left field before pitcher Mike Rigazio hit a double to deep left field that scored Muscato giving Charlotte County a 5-4 advantage.

The Juice would not give up after falling behind when Willie James led off the Bottom of the 6th with a single to right field. With Drew York at the plate James stole second base and then he advanced to 3rd base when York flew out to center field. Then pinch hitter Nick Corbeil doubled to left field driving in James tying the game at 5. Two batters later Luke Barganier hit an inside the park home run thanks in part to center fielder Jared Williams misjudging a fly ball to center field that went over his head and all the way to the wall. This is Barganier's 7th homer and it drove home York making it 7-5 Juice.

Charlotte County would score a run in the Top of the 7th with Billy Kovatch hitting a two-out single to left field before Jason Hurst singled to center field scoring Kovatch cutting the Juice lead to 7-6. But Marshall Plouffe got the next batter Josh Murray to foul out to the catcher to secure his 4th save of the season and a Juice victory.

Rocky Collis started and takes a no decision for the Juice going 4 innings, allowing 5 runs (all earned) on 4 hits, walking 3 and striking out 3 batters.

Wayne Hedden (4-0) picks up the victory by allowing 0 runs, 0 hits, 0 walks and 2 strikeouts over 2/3 of an inning.

Reliever Aaron Easton (3-5) takes the loss for Charlotte County pitching 2/3 of an inning, allowing 2 runs (all earned) on 2 hits, walking 0 and striking out 1 batter.

One win to start the week was not enough for the Juice. Bradenton got the scoring started in the Bottom of the 2nd of game two with Nick Corbeil drawing a leadoff walk before Eddie Kim singled to left field. Two batters later Mikela Olsen singled to left field plating Corbeil putting the Juice up 1-0.

Bradenton added another run in the 3rd when Luke Barganier singled to center field and then Al Corbeil hit a ground rule double down the right field line putting runners on 2nd and 3rd base. Then Nick Corbeil flew out to right field and the throw home got away from the catcher Mike Muscato allowing Barganier to scored making it 2-0 Bradenton.

The Juice tacked on another run in the Bottom of the 4th when Brenan Herrera led off with a single to right field before Mikela Olsen singled to right field advancing Herrera to 3rd base. With runners on the corners Willie James grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Herrra giving the Juice a 3-0 lead.

The Redfish got on the scoreboard in the 6th with Billy Kovatch hitting a leadoff single to left field. Kovatch advanced to 3rd base by P.J. Lehmann grounding out to 1st base before Billy Hogan flew out to right field. Then Jason Hurst singled to left field driving in Kovatch cutting the Juice lead to 3-1.

Derek Hawk (3-5) had one of his best starts of the season for the Juice getting the victory by pitching 5 innings, allowing 0 runs on 3 hits, walking 0 and striking out 9 batters.

Daniel Chaffardet (1-5) loses for the Redfish only lasting 1.1 innings, allowing 1 run (earned) on 2 hits, walking 2 and striking out 0.

Marshall Plouffe picked up his second save of the day and he now has 5 saves.

Bradenton improves its second half record to 13-10 and 37-30 overall while Charlotte County is 6-16 in the second half and 18-49 overall. The Juice continue their success on Monday nights as Bradenton is 10-3 on Monday, while they are a perfect 8-0 on Tuesdays.

Of note for the Juice combining games one and two Luke Barganier went 4-7 with an inside the park homerun, 3 singles, 3 RBI, 3 runs scored. Eddie Kim went 3-6 with 3 singles and 2 RBI and Brenan Herrera went 3-6 with 3 singles, an RBI and a run scored.

Travis Kane is scheduled to start game one of Tuesday's doubleheader with Luke Palmer expected to get the ball in game two.

Game one on Tuesday is set for 5:05 against the Redfish with game two starting approximately 25 minutes after the conclusion of the opener.
