Macon, GA- Saturday night was a great night for the Bradenton Juice as the Juice defeated the Macon Music 10-4 in the final meeting between the two squads in 2007. Bradenton's starting pitcher Brian Gartley threw a great game and he also contributed in a big way at the plate to help snap the Juice's two-game losing streak.
Bradenton got the scoring started early in the 1st inning with Luke Barganier hitting a one-out single to center field before Al Corbeil launched his 11th home run of the season over the right field wall giving the Juice a 2-0 lead.
Macon cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning when Dorian Rojas led off the inning by drawing a walk and two batters later Ismael Castro singled to center field plating Rojas.
Two innings later the Juice attacked again scoring 3 runs. Pitcher Brian Gartley led off with a single to left field and then Julius Thames hit a sacrifice bunt that moved Gartley to second base. Next batter Luke Barganier smacked a double to center field that moved Gartley to third base. Al Corbeil was then intentionally walked to load the bases before his younger brother Nice singled to left field driving home Gartley and Barganier making it a 4-1 game. With Brenan Herrera at the plate the Corbeil brothers executed a double steal to perfection before Herrera was walked. With the bases full Zach Woodward hit a sacrifice fly to center field plating Al Corbeil putting the Juice up 5-1.
Macon countered with a run in the Bottom of the 3rd when Dorian Rojas led off with a double to left field and two batters later Ismael Castro drew a walk. Up next Casey Garrison hit into a fielder's choice that drove home Rojas making it a 5-2 game.
The Juice scored two more runs in the Top of the 4th with newcomer Brendan O'Donnell hitting a triple to left field and then Brian Gartley drove him home with a single to left field putting Bradenton up 6-2. After Gartley stole second base and advanced to third on a passed ball Al Corbeil hit a two-out single to right field driving in Gartley giving the Juice a 7-2 cushion.
Bradenton put together another big inning in the Top of the 5th with Brenan Herrera leading off with a walk and then Zach Woodward singled to left field. Then two batters later Brendan O'Donnell was intentionally walked to load the bases. The next batter Brian Gartley made the Music pay by smacking a single to left field that drove in Herrera and Woodward putting the Juice up 9-2. Two batters later Luke Barganier was hit by a pitch and with the bases loaded Al Corbeil drew a walk that drove in O'Donnell giving Bradenton a commanding 10-2 lead.
The Music scored two more runs in the Bottom of the 9th with Justin Huff leading off with a single and two batters later Dorian Rojas was hit by a pitch. Two batters later Ismael Castro doubled to right field scoring Huff and Rojas cutting the Juice lead to 10-4.
Brian Gartley (7-2) picks up the win for Bradenton pitching 6 innings, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits, walking 2 and striking out 7 batters. Blake Rice (2-1) took the loss for the Music going 3.1 innings, allowing 7 runs (6 earned) on 7 hits, walking 2 and striking out none.
Of note for the Juice Brian Gartley went 3-4 at the plate with 3 singles, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored while Luke Barganier was 2-4 with a double, a single and two runs scored. Also Al Corbeil went 2-3 with a two-run homer (11th of the season), a single, two walks, 4 RBI and 2 runs scored.
Bradenton improves its second half record to 11-10 and 35-30 overall while Macon falls to 13-8 in the second half and 43-23 overall.
The Juice return to Florida on Monday to start a five-game series with the Charlotte County Redfish. On Monday and Tuesday the teams will play seven-inning doubleheaders starting at 5:05 at the Charlotte Sports Park.
