
Bradenton Sweeps Another Doubleheader Vs. The Redfish

Port Charlotte, FL- On the night Barry Bonds hit homerun number 756 and became the new homerun champion of all-time the Bradenton Juice set a new team first by sweeping a doubleheader vs. the Charlotte County Redfish for the second consecutive night. The Juice won the first game 4-0 and game two 5-3 against the Redfish increasing Bradenton's winning streak to five games.
Game one was scoreless until the Juice scored three runs in the Top of the 4th. Nick Corbeil led off by getting hit by a pitch and then Brenan Herrera doubled to left field. With two runners on base Eddie Kim hit a homerun deep over the right field wall, his 6th long drive of the season giving Bradenton a 3-0 lead.
The Juice added an insurance run in the 5th when Al Corbeil hit a solo homer over the right field wall, his 12th of the season giving the Juice a 4-0 advantage.
Travis Kane (4-1) pitched a gem for the Juice going 6 innings, allowing 0 runs on 2 hits, walking 0 and striking out 7 batters.
Celson Polanco (0-7) fares with a loss for Charlotte County after pitching 6 innings, allowing 4 runs (all earned) on 6 hits, walking 3 and striking out 5.
Game two was another successful game for the Juice with Bradenton scoring first in the Top of the 2nd. Willie James led off with a bunt single and then Luke Palmer hit a sacrifice bunt advancing James to second base. Then Julius Thames hit a double to right field that James scored on when the shortstop committed an error on the relay throw giving the Juice a 1-0 lead. Next with Luke Barganier at the plate and Thames on third base Thames scored on a wild pitch giving Bradenton a 2-0 cushion.
Charlotte County would tie the game in the Bottom of the 4th with Jose Gutierrez getting hit by a pitch leading off the inning and then Mike Muscato singled to left field. After Brad Thoma lined out to left field Millard Dawson drew a walk. Then with the bases loaded pinch hitter Aaron Simmons grounded out to the shortstop driving home Gutierrez cutting the Juice lead to 2-1. Then with Billy Kovatch at the plate Muscato scored on a wild pitch tying the game at 2.
The Juice would take the lead for good in the Top of the 5th when Bradenton scored five times. Willie James led off with a walk and then pinch hitter Jean Castro singled to center field. Up next Julius Thames hit into a fielder's choice that no outs were recorded on when the throw from the shortstop Jose Gutierrez to second baseman P.J. Lehmann standing on second base was not gloved and the attempted throw to first base was not in time to get Thames. So with the bases loaded Al Corbeil drove in a hard fought RBI by getting hit by a pitch that scored James giving the Juice a 3-2 lead. After Mikela Olsen hit into a fielder's choice Brenan Herrera singled to left field driving home Thames and Corbeil putting Bradenton on top 5-2.
The Redfish countered with a run in the 5th when Billy Hogan hit a one-out double to left field. Then Josh Murray reached base on an error and with runners on the corners Jose Gutierrez hit into a fielder's choice that scored Hogan cutting the Juice lead to 5-3.
Luke Palmer started the game for the Juice and took a no decision after pitching 4 innings, allowing 2 runs (all earned) on 3 hits, walking 3 and striking out 3 batters.
Jim O'Malia (3-3) pitched the 5th inning to get the win allowing 1 run (unearned) on 1 hit, walking 0 and striking out 0.
Relieve Aaron Simmons (0-1) takes the loss for the Redfish pitching 1/3 of an inning, allowing 3 runs (all earned) on 1 hit, walking 1 and striking out 1 Juice batter.
Bradenton improves its record to 15-10 in the second half and 39-30 overall while Charlotte County falls to 6-18 in the second half and 18-51 overall.
Bradenton has the longest current winning streak in the South Coast League at five games and the Juice will try and sweep the five-game series from the Redfish on Wednesday at 7:05 at the Charlotte Sports Park.
