Peanuts Win a Close One and Take the Series

August 8, 2007 - South Coast League (SCL)
South Georgia Peanuts News Release

The South Georgia Peanuts, presented by Security Bank, won for the second day in a row under interim manager Larry Olenberger. The Peanuts took two out of three from the Anderson Joes by winning 5-2.

The beginning of the ballgame featured very few runs or hits for either team. Through five innings, the teams had only scored a combined two runs as the score was tied at 1-1. After Anderson starting pitcher Dave Rider exited the game, things began to pick up for South Georgia. The Peanuts plated four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The big hit was a Curtis Goodwin Sr. single that plated both Johnny Washington and Dustin Taylor.

Pitching was once again dominant for South Georgia. Taylor got the start and went 6.1 innings allowing one unearned run on three hits with three strikeouts. Dumas Garcia pitched in relief for the first time since May and did not allow a hit in 1.2 innings. Rider was also very good pitching for Anderson. Getting a spot start, he went four innings and did not allow a run on one hit.

Joey Hooft led the way at the plate for South Georgia going 2-4 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI. Goodwin Sr. picked up a hit for the tenth consecutive game and also picked up two RBI. Keen also had two RBI on a triple in the sixth and a sacrifice fly in the fifth.

The Peanuts open a three game series with Bradenton on Thursday. The series was originally scheduled to be played in Bradenton but has been moved to South Georgia. Austin Weilep is set to get the start for the Peanuts. First pitch will be thrown at 7:10. It is "Thirsty Thursday" with special pricing on all beverages. Tickets are still available by logging onto southgeorgiapeanuts.com or by visiting the Peanuts box office at Paul Eames Park.
