Backman Steps Down

August 7, 2007 - South Coast League (SCL) News Release


CONYERS, GA - The South Coast League of Professional Baseball announced today that Wally Backman has stepped down from the position of field manager of the South Georgia Peanuts. The league has named assistant coach Larry Olenberger as interim manager for the remainder of the 2007 season.

South Coast League officials issued the following statement.

Based on a number of lengthy and productive conversations in the last 24 hours, the South Coast League and Mr. Backman have come to a mutual understanding on various philosophical differences. Both parties felt that it would be best suited if Mr. Backman stepped down as field manager of the South Georgia Peanuts. Assistant coach Larry Olenberger will act as interim manager for the remainder of the 2007 season. We wish Mr. Backman success in all his future endeavors and thank him for his time and effort spent with the South Coast League.
