Peanuts Drop Opener, 10-0
June 7, 2007 - South Coast League (SCL)
South Georgia Peanuts News Release
The South Georgia Peanuts, presented by Security Bank, lost for the third time in a row on Thursday night. The Peanuts and the Macon Music faced each other for the "Peach Series" game of the season. It was not much of a game as Macon won by a score of 10-0.
Chris Howell made his first start for the Peanuts but it did not go the way he would have liked it to go. Howell was unable to retire a single batter in the bottom of the first. He gave up seven runs on just three hits. He walked four. Six of the runs were scored off of home runs including a Mike DeVeaux grand slam.
The game quickly became a bullpen game. Pat Ford came in and pitched four innings. He did not allow a run in the first three innings before he gave up two runs in the fourth. Jake Upwood came into pitch for the Peanuts and worked two innings allowing no hits and only one base runner. Mike Colacchio worked the seventh and did not allow a run. Macon did score one run in the eighth off of Josh Cowles to get their tenth run.
No Peanuts batter had more than one hit on the night. The two teams will face each other again Friday night. Damas Garcia will make his first start on the year for the Peanuts. First pitch is set for 7:05. The game can be heard in South Georgia on "1450 The Fan" and worldwide at www.southgeorgiapenauts.com.
