Frederick Keys News Release

A night after its most disconcerting loss of the season, LHP Nathan Moreau set the tone, pitching a season-high seven innings while allowing just one run in the Keys 4-1 win in the series opener in Wilmington. With the win, the Keys ended the Blue Rocks seven-game winning streak and moved within two games of the first place Blue Rocks.

Leading 2-1 with a run already home in the bottom of the sixth inning, Moreau (4-3) fought through the lone jam he faced on the night, getting Wilmington CF Yem Prades to pop out to Keys SS Garabez Rosa in shallow center field with the bases loaded.

After Moreau departed the Keys would fend off one more big Blue Rocks rally. RHP Jacob Rasner walked Wilmington LF Whit Merrifield to open the eighth inning and then hit the following batter, RF Carlo Testa. In came LHP Chris Petrini who elicited a fly ball out that moved the runners up to second and third base. Petrini then settled in a struck out 1B John Whittleman on three sweeping breaking balls for the all important second out. In came RHP Ryohei Tanaka who got DH Tim Ferguson to fly out to right field and the lead was still intact.

In the ninth inning, Keys 1B Tyler Townsend registered his second extra base hit of the night with a two-run double to left-center field. The Keys had been hitless in 14 at-bats with runners in scoring position prior. The double sealed the game advancing the Frederick lead to 4-1. The Keys ended 1-for-16 on the night with runners in scoring position.

Now just two games back the Keys will send RHP Ryan O'Shea to the hill Tuesday, May 24th at 6:35 p.m. at Frawley Stadium.

The Keys return home on Memorial Day, May 30th with a 4:00 p.m. start against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. For tickets contact the Keys Box Office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase online at frederickkeys.com.
