Winston-Salem Dash News Release
LYNCHBURG, VA (MAY 23, 2011) - Today the Dash announced an assortment of roster moves. RHP Leroy Hunt returns to Winston-Salem while RHP J.R. Ballinger and LHP Wes Whisler have been re-assigned to low-A Kannapolis. There are no other corresponding roster moves at this time.
Hunt re-joins the team from Kannapolis after starting 2011 in extended spring training. In seven relief appearances with the Intimidators, he was 1-0 with one save and a deceiving 5.79 ERA. Excluding one rough outing on May 16 (4 earned runs in 0.1 innings), Hunt would have an ERA of 2.00 in nine innings. He had 13 strikeouts with just two walks and limited opponents to a .171 batting average. Hunt spent most of 2010 with Winston-Salem, making 26 appearances (one start) and going 0-4 with an 8.66 ERA. He finished the season with Kannapolis, pitching in two games and compiling a 9.00 ERA with no record.
Ballinger spent one day on the Dash's active roster and pitched in yesterday's 8-7 victory over the Salem Red Sox. He picked up the win with three scoreless innings, allowing three hits while striking out three batters.
Whisler pitched in three games for Winston-Salem in his one-week stint with the team. An overhand pitcher for his entire career, Whisler was converted to a submarine left-hander three weeks ago and saw his first live action with the new arm angle in three games. He was 0-1 with a 67.50 ERA (5 ER, 0.2 IP) for the Dash.
The Dash's roster stands at 24 players, one below the Carolina League limit.
Tonight the Dash begin a six-game road trip with the first of three games against the Lynchburg Hillcats. First pitch from Lynchburg City Stadium is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. and fans can tune in to the live broadcast beginning at 5:45 at www.wsdash.com .
