(WOODBRIDGE, VA) Destin Hood has been named the Carolina League Player of the Week of May 16, the league office announced Monday morning. The Potomac Nationals' rightfielder set the circuit on fire during series in Frederick and Kinston; Hood batted .448 (13-29) with a remarkable seven doubles, a home run and a triple. He drove in ten runs, scored five times and walked twice in seven games.

Hood finished the weekend particularly hot: in the three games in Lynchburg, he went 8-for-14 with five doubles (including three on Sunday), five RBIs and four runs scored. With the torrid stretch, Hood raised his batting average 50 points (from .237 to .287) and nearly doubled his season RBI total (16 to 26).

Not surprisingly, Hood is now tied for the Carolina League lead with 16 doubles. His 26 RBI place him sixth in the circuit, while his .387 on-base percentage is seventh best in the league.

Hood is the first P-Nat to win a weekly Carolina League award in 2011. The Mobile, Alabama native was the Washington Nationals' 2nd Round pick in the 2008 Amateur Draft.

The Nationals begin a seven-game homestand - their longest of the 2011 season - this evening against the Kinston Indians.
