Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, MB. - The Brandon Wheat Kings plan to lean on a number of community leaders Friday night when they play host to the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors in their 2018-19 Western Hockey League regular season opener.

The WHL club has announced that representatives of western Manitoba's local police, fire, rescue and emergency medical responders will be on hand to help perform the ceremonial opening face-off.

By doing so, the Wheat Kings hope to inspire the community to show their mutual of these agencies that do so much for western Manitobans.

Assisting the on ice duties will be Brandon Police Service Deputy Chief Randy Lewis, Deputy Chief Terry Parlow, representing Brandon Fire and Emergency Services and Corporal Jennifer McKinnon of the Brandon Detachment of the Royal Canadian Mountain Police.

Performing the national anthem will be Kristen Nerbas.

A local product, Nerbas will be sharing the starring role of Sophie Sheridan in November's production of Mamma Mia at Virden's magical Auditorium Theatre.

Nerbas is a veteran member of The Virden and District Chorale, which is a non profit organization that has been providing musical opportunities for people of all ages for the past thirty years.

The show - a smash hit musical - will run November 21-25th and are available online at www.eventbrite.ca.

Friday's game will be the first of a weekend home and home series between the two teams and fans are being encouraged to come early as the players will be introduced before the opening face-off.

As well, the Prairie Toyota Dealers are presenting the annual Inside Tailgate Party at Westoba Place. The party will go from 5-7pm in both the MNP Hall and Amphitheatre.

Tickets to The Brandon Sun Home Opener, presented by TELUS, are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling (204) 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com

As of noon Thursday, close to 3,500 tickets had been sold for Friday's season opener. Over 5,000 fans attended the Wheat Kings Home Opener in 2017.
