New York Boulders News Release
(Ramapo, N.Y. August 24) - Pat Moran went the distance, allowing five runs (one earned) on six hits and no walks, but Rockland lost its eleventh consecutive game, 5-2 to the New Jersey Jackals Friday evening at Provident Bank Park. With the loss, Rockland was officially eliminated from playoff contention in the Can-Am League.
Angel Berroa's first inning three-run homer, which came with two outs, was the difference in the game. All three of those runs were unearned. Rockland pulled to within two runs in the bottom of the second when Ryan Mollica hit his tenth home run of the season, a solo shot just inside the right field foul pole.
But the Jackals extended their lead to four in the third, the first run scored on an RBI ground out by Francisco Caraballo, the second on a booming double by Berroa, who finished with four RBI on the night. Kyle Greenwalt pitched six solid innings to earn the victory for New Jersey.
Moran kept the Boulders in the game, retiring 19 of the final 22 batters he faced and Rockland had an opportunity to tie the game in the ninth, loading the bases with nobody out. Chris Valencia grounded into a fielder's choice, which cut the deficit to three runs, but Cole Kraft popped out and Keith Brachold struck out to end the game.
Brachold went 1-4 with a single and remains four homers shy of Eddie Lantigua's single season home run record of 31, which was set back in 2005.
Rockland looks to snap its losing streak Saturday at 7 p.m. with Bobby Blevins on the hill. Tickets are still available but they're going fast - to catch all the fun and action, call 845-364-0009, visit the Provident Bank Park box office, or click "Tickets" here on Rocklandboulders.com.
